HYPE Presents: 35 Under 35—Valerie Tran
HYPE (Hungry Young Professionals Engaging) is an ERG based at our Lousiville, Kentucky campus. They recently launched their 35 under 35 campaign which aims to highlight 35 young professionals from now until the end of the year who are making a difference in our company and practicing allyship. What is a recent achievement you wish to share?
I recently was named Volunteer of the Year at the University of Louisville! I also was selected to serve on the Louisville Trauma Resilient Community Advisory Board to help create a city that promotes equity and prioritizes mental health!
How are you an ally/practicing allyship for an underrepresented community?
I'm a part of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee within the Student Government Association at the University of Louisville. My subcommittee focuses on including underrepresented students on campus in the conversation about mental health. I worked with TRIO SSS, a program that serves first-generation and minority students, to create a mental health event!
Who is an influential leader for you (outside of Yum/KFC) and why?
An influential leader for me is Selena Gomez. She launched her new makeup brand, Rare Beauty, and commits to donate a portion to mental health services to underserved communities.
Tell us something about yourself you would love to share
I have an online embroidery shop that I run on the side of school and my internship! It's @threadslovedby on Instagram.
What is your favorite menu item from any of our brands (it's ok if it's not your brand)
I love the spicy chicken sandwich from KFC and the chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell.
