HYPE Presents: 35 Under 35 — Nigel Benton

HYPE (Hungry Young Professionals Engaging) is an ERG based at our Lousiville, Kentucky campus. They recently launched their 35 under 35 campaign which aims to highlight 35 young professionals from now until the end of the year who are making a difference in our company and practicing allyship. What is a recent achievement you wish to share?

I wrote a job description, interviewed and hired a first partner in Ops Tech (direct report), Ernie Denizard at the beginning of 2021. Being able to help develop someone and myself is the greatest achievement.

How are you an ally/practicing allyship for an underrepresented community?

I co-lead the Black Lives @ KFC group with Nina Meadows. I have monthly calls with the KFCHD minority team alongside of Brandy Draper. I also make sure I am speaking out and voicing the pain and struggles that minorities have been going through in my life during 2020.

Who is an influential leader for you (outside of Yum/brand) and why?


My Father. He has paved the way for me and my family to grow, develop and live a life to help others.

Tell us something about yourself you would love to share:

I try to live my life like water - “You must be shapeless, formless, like water. When you pour water in a cup, it becomes the cup. When you pour water in a bottle, it becomes the bottle. When you pour water in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can drip and it can crash. Become like water my friend.”
