KFC - HYPE Presents: 35 Under 35 — Devin Burr

HYPE (Hungry Young Professionals Engaging) is an ERG based at our Lousiville, Kentucky campus. Earlier this year, they launched their 35 under 35 campaign which aims to highlight 35 young professionals from now until the end of the year who are making a difference in our company and practicing allyship. What is a recent achievement you wish to share?

A recent win for me was watching the success of our summer intern for KFC Financial Planning, Mubaraq Usman. Mubaraq not only took ownership of some key areas of the planning function (weekly sales, channel mix reporting, other ad hoc requests) but showed an incredible drive, a natural intellectual curiosity, and an ability to derive conclusions/insights from his analysis. The highlight of his time with us for me was watching him shine in his final project presentation, where he delivered a recommendation on planning for “new normal sales trends” to Shannon Hennessy our KFC Global CFO, and the broader KFC Finance team. He delivered a robust analysis impressively and showed how quickly he has gained an understanding of our business and trends at the market-level. As his coach, I am super proud to have played a small part in his success!

How are you an ally/practicing allyship for an underrepresented community?

My equity and inclusion commitment is to create a safe space for people on my team to learn about one another’s backgrounds and volunteer to share stories of what shaped their lives and to attend/volunteer at an event that celebrates diversity or a cultural background other than my own.

What's a company/organization you think is making an impact for growth and good?

ahem... Yum! and KFC are making a HUGE impact in terms of People, Food, and Planet!

What is your career aspiration/goal? Do you have a "dream position"?

My career aspiration is to continue growing a broader understanding of the business through cross-functional and market-level experience and to continue developing as a leader and a coach.
