KFC MAXIMIZES SAFETY FOR EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS- KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN: 100% OF THE RESTAURANTS IN ITALY ARE FULLY OPERATIONAL

June 08, 2020

June 8, 2020, Milan, Italy– Kentucky Fried Chicken has reactivated all services, including consumption in the restaurant (dine-in), in all the brand's restaurants, in 12 regions in Italy. Enjoying Colonel Sanders' famous fried chicken again in KFC restaurants, in maximum safety, is possible and easy, thanks to the measures put in place for the protection of employees and customers. And the first few weeks of reopening marked an important recovery in sales.

The already very high safety standards in KFC restaurants have been further strengthened according to the indications of the national and regional authorities. Management of incoming / outgoing customer flows and organization of tables and chairs to guarantee the required distances, contactless orders and payments, sanitizing of the tables at each use and of all surfaces in the room every 30 minutes, gloves and sanitizing solutions available of customers are some of the measures planned to allow customers to safely enjoy KFC fried chicken in the brand's restaurants. And for employees, shifts planned in order to stagger the arrival in the restaurant, use of personal protective equipment, hand washing and change of gloves every 30 minutes, sanitizing twice a day of all surfaces and contact points at the interior of the kitchens, to mention some ways of organizing work.

"We have been reactive from the very beginning of the situation linked to Covid19 and ready to implement the indications of the competent authorities by activating delivery, take away and drive thru as soon as it was allowed, with all the necessary security measures for employees and customers. We have defined framework agreements with the main delivery players in two weeks, accelerating processes that usually require much more time, to be present in the most widespread way through this service, which alone during the lockdown has allowed us to reach 60% of the pre-Covid sales - declares Corrado Cagnola, CEO of KFC Italia - This has allowed us to never completely stop our business and to face solidly a situation that has undoubtedly been dramatic for everyone. Three weeks after the complete reopening of the brand's restaurants in Italy, we are recording a positive trend in sales. A contribution to the restart not only of the KFC system but of the entire food retail industry ".

The first phase of the situation determined by the pandemic saw KFC Italia also committed to supporting those who worked on the front line to face the health crisis and its consequences. For example, with several donations of fried chicken to the healthcare staff of the Luigi Sacco hospitals in Milan, Humanitas in Rozzano and San Gerardo in Monza, a tasteful break offered by the team of the KFC restaurant in Milan Bicocca, managed in franchising by 5Roosters srl. Or with the donation, made by KFC through Yum! Foundation, of 50,000 dollars to the Banco Alimentare Network, at the center of a supply chain engaged daily in the delivery of food products to people in need in many Italian municipalities.

"Our primary objective was to protect people, in terms of security and employment - concludes Corrado Cagnola - and with our franchisees we have also tried to make a contribution, as far as possible, to the communities of the territories in which we operate. Now we are working to resume the growth of a system that employs over 1000 people in Italy and which, thanks to its solidity, allows us to confidently tackle a development plan that restarts with energy and foresees the opening of new restaurants in the coming weeks" .

The activity linked to the Harvest project by KFC, the only fast food company to collect and donate its food surpluses through the Banco Alimentare Network and its offices throughout the country, is also restarting throughout the country. A project that today involves 14 restaurants of the brand and as many organizations that help people in difficulty, and which has made it possible to donate, since 2017, 25,000 meals for a total of 200,000 pieces of chicken.
