KFC ANNOUNCES THE REMOVAL OF PLASTIC STRAWS IN EACH OF ITS 250 RESTAURANTS IN FRANCE

KFC anticipates the entry into force of the new rules on single-use plastics

Paris, France, January 15, 2019- Starting from January 2019, KFC has decided to replace plastic straws with more environmentally responsible paper straws. The company has announced not to wait for the entry into force of the new rules from the law for the balance of trade relations in the agricultural sector and healthy, sustainable and accessible food for all (known as EGAlim) which provides for a reduction in single-use plastics by 2020. These will now only be available on request at the counter.

In a gradual rollout, this approach has already been adopted in four Parisian restaurants (La Défense, Convention, Strasbourg Saint-Denis and Place de Clichy) and will be expanded to all 250 KFC restauraunts during the first quarter of 2019.

KFC relies on a surprising media partnership to launch its campaign #PAILLEPAILLELESPAILLESPAILLES (" Bye Bye Bye Les Pailles ", pun which means “Bye Bye to Straws) with Hemisphère Droit agency

The brand is delighted to share its eco-responsible commitment thanks to an unprecedented partnership with five magazines: Challenges, L'Automobile Magazine, Geek, l'Equipe Magazine and La Revue Nationale de La Chasse. Each creation will be adapted to the theme of the press title to blend in with the editorial line in an offbeat tone. The objective of this campaign is to address very different reader targets and to engage all French people in the process. The campaign will be featured in magazines to be published in newsstands from January 15th and on social networks.

KFC is committed to continuing its efforts this year to respect the environment

After the PEFC certification of the iconic Bucket (the cardboard used comes from eco-managed forests), the removal of plastic straws is part of a broader waste reduction policy. KFC intends to continue in this direction in order to reduce its environmental impact.
